The incompatibility between Latino culture and American education addresses one of the most urgent problems in the United States’ educational system; Latino underachievement. While most educators believe that the problem lies in the present school system or in budgetary constraints, this book argues that Hispanic cultures is incompatible with educational success in the United States.

This book was written to help anyone who services a Latino population. In a sense, just as one would find a college textbook as a primer to a certain subject, such as astronomy or art, this book, likewise, is intended to be a kind of introductory textbook on the Mexican-American culture. With so many newspaper, magazine, and internet articles dealing with the challenges facing Hispanics, one finds, concurrently, scant material which will explain this culture to someone from a different ethnic extraction. In a sense, professionals from all walks of life and in every field cannot hope to adequately address the needs of Latinos in general, and Mexican-Americans in particular, without some guide, or text, from which they can learn about the people with whom they work.
